Felt Roofing
The term "felt roofing" typically refers to the bitumen flat roofing system. The viscosity of the bitumen coatings create a highly durable, long-lasting roof covering.

What does this system look like?

AVCL: A typical build-up starts with an air and vapour control layers (AVCL). This is applied either with a torch-on method, or a self-adhesive membrane and a priming solution. The versatility in this base layer means you can install this system onto pretty much anything - even existing felt roofs.

Insulation: With the breathable membrane fitted we can now safely install a PIR insulation board to the area without fear of any condensation causing damage to the roof structure below. If the falls in the deck are insufficient or requires upgrading, a "cut-to-fall" insulation system can be installed.

Underlay: To secure the roof, 2 further layers of bitumen coated membranes are installed. The first (underlayer), can be torched-on, glued with a polyurethane adhesive, or a self-adhesive membrane can be used. This depends on the type of insulation used.

Capsheet: The final layer of protection that gives the roof it's instantly recognisable finish. Stone chippings are often seen melded into the top side of the cap sheet to assist drainage, grip, and general appearance.

We offer a full system which carries a minimum guarantee period of 20-years, but this can always be upgraded to carry up to a 35-year guarantee.

We can survey and design your felt roofing project, suggest an insulation thickness, and even provide a tapered insulation layout if your roof requires a drainage upgrade.
